Juma claims he had successfully predicted the matches on February 17, 2023.

“On February 17, 2023, the respondent advertised a DAILY SABABISHA 3WAY JACKPOT of Sh500,000 in their platform and invited customers to predict eight football matches at a wager of Sh10. The customer who could correctly predict the matches was entitled to the ultimate cash prize of Sh500,000,” read the suit in part.

Melly who is a regular punter on the platform says he spent Sh113,712 on October 16, 2023, at around 5 am to place a virtual bet before winning the money that was at stake but the company is yet to pay him.

Mr. Okinyi has told the company to admit liability within the next one day from October 18, 2023, so that the issue of damages payable to Mr Melly can be addressed amicably date hereof after which we shall amicably.

Melly has instructed his lawyer to demand the money with interests’ failure to move to court and sue the company.

“Take notice that unless we receive your written admission of liability within the next one day from the date herein, we have mandatory instructions to institute legal proceedings against you for recovery to protect our client’s interest at your own risk to the sequel costs. Be Advised accordingly,” Okinyo states in the letter. The letter dated October 18 is copied to the BCLB and the DTA.

In a recent turn of events, leading gambling firm Betika finds itself embroiled in a legal dispute with a disgruntled punter, Nelson Melly, who claims to have won a significant sum of Sh477,590 on Betika’s virtual betting platform.

Despite Melly’s supposed victory, Betika has allegedly failed to honor the payout, leading Melly to issue an ultimatum: pay within 24 hours or face legal consequences.

Melly’s lawyer, Isaac Okinyo, sent a demand letter to Betika, also copied to the Data Protection Agency (DTA) and the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).
