Adam Silver announces that Ja Morant has been suspended for the entire 2023-2024 season.
Ja Morant’s absence from basketball since the first round of the playoffs hasn’t stopped him from making headlines. A recent Instagram Live video depicted Morant with a firearm, leading to him awaiting punishment from the NBA.
In a lighthearted manner, Barstool Sports released a tweet stating that Morant would be suspended for 50 games next season, just after the Denver Nuggets became NBA champions.
Speaking with reporters prior to the Finals, Silver said, “In terms of the timing, we’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information… We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we made the decision, and I believe the player association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce in the middle of this series to announce the results of that investigation.”
This reaction from the NBA Twitter world was especially funny, because Silver explicitly stated the league’s decision to withhold the announcement was to allow focus to remain on the Finals. That decision has backfired in some ways, as Silver’s comments have been dissected on every major talk show, with analysts predicting how long Morant will be suspended for.
