A Taguig court on Monday (September 19) issued a warrant of arrest against actor and It’s Showtime host Vhong Navarro, in relation to the acts of lasciviousness case filed by Deniece Cornejo.
Branch 116 of the Taguig City Metropolitan Trial Court said in a one-page order that it finds probable cause against Navarro for acts of lasciviousness, and has recommended bail of P36,000. (Read More Here).
“After personally evaluating and taking into consideration the information filed … as well as the allegations in the complaint-affidavit executed by the offended party, which are all under oath, together with the supporting documents attached thereon, the Court finds that there is probable cause to hold the accused for trial,” the order read, signed by Judge Angela Francesca Din.
In July, the Court of Appeals granted Cornejo’s petition for certiorari and ruled against the resolutions of the Department of Justice (DOJ) denying the review of her cases against Navarro, saying that it was erroneous on the part of the DOJ to deny the petition on grounds that her statements in the complaint-affidavits were “inconsistent and incredible.”
“It was erroneous for the DOJ to deny Cornejo’s petition for review on the ground that her statements in the complaint-affidavits are inconsistent and incredible,” the CA said.
“In this regard, it bears to stress that the determination of probable cause does not depend on the validity or merits of a party’s accusation or defense or on the admissibility or veracity of testimonies presented,” the CA added.
