I saw Dave Chappell last night at Boston TD Garden. It was sold out so I would say 22,000 people there. 3/4 into the show he said I want to address what’s going on in Palestine and Israel. He specifically said Palestine and said it before Israel. He said what happened on October 7 wasn’t right but also what’s going on isn’t right and not just. You can’t kill innocent civilians like that and the whole world sits silently and watches. Then someone shouted at him from the crowd shut the F up Dave. He then went nuts and yelled back no you shut the F up. you don’t take tens of billions from my country to go kill innocent women and children and come and tell me to shut the F up. He said don’t come begging for money from my country and then go drop bombs on children and cut off innocent people water and electricity. You have the audacity to pay to come see me and then tell me shut the F up no you shut the F up. The crowd started clapping and cheering for him and saying yes Dave and chants of free Palestine and then he said you’re damn right free Palestine.
He went on a 15 minutes rant about being a Muslim and that the Israelis are projecting what’s wrong with them on Muslims and the crowd kept on cheering. It was surreal.
Crowd was typical Boston demographic 80% white. 5% black and the rest Latin and others. He yelled what are you going to do to me cancel me go ahead and cancel me. You can’t cancel all of us”.
More recently, an Illinois attorney in the state comptroller’s office, Sarah Chowdhury, was fired after it was revealed on Friday that she had made antisemitic statements in social media messages. The reported messages included, “Vermin should have all been killed decades ago,” “Hopefully someone sends you anthrax or poison and you die a slow terrible death” and “Hitler should have eradicated all of you.”
The comedian made the inflammatory remarks Thursday during a show in Boston — where cell phones were confiscated — and according to the Wall Street Journal … he got into the Middle East topic toward the end of his set, where he seemed to mostly side with Palestine. He reportedly condemned the terrorist attack on Israel that was carried out by Hamas, but then said the response/retaliation to Palestinians in Gaza has been disproportionate — accusing Israel of committing war crimes with their bombing campaign … and even claiming the U.S. was responsible for aiding and abetting “the slaughter of innocent civilians.”
At one point in the show, Chappell mentioned how he doesn’t believe those who have protested in support of Hamas should lose their jobs for doing so, which drew one audience member to tell him to “shut up.”
When the comedian condemned Israel for cutting off essentials to Gaza, such as water, some in the audience cheered yelling “Free Palestine,” others shouted, “What about Hamas,” and some got up and left.
According to the report, Chappelle’s final note on the matter was to say that “two wrongs don’t make a right.”
Since the Oct. 7, attack on Israel where over 1,500 people were killed and thousands more injured Palestinian authorities are reporting that more than 4,300 have been killed by Israeli airstrikes.
