Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will be “the last of the Origins formula”

Assassin’s Creed Origins introduced the RPG/leveling formula which was a drastic departure from the more parkour/stealth focused formula

What direction you hope for #AssassinsCreed to follow after the formula introduced in Assassin’s Creed Origins?

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has been through a lot of highs and lows. Over the years Ubisoft has shown quite an interest in investing in the franchise. While the franchise’s thirteenth installment release is on the edge, the developers have already planned a star-studded blueprint for the future. Ever since the developers revealed the future lineup of the label, fans have been speculating about the adaptation of the ‘OG’ format. According to the hardcore fans of the franchise, the game has lost its charm over the years due to prioritizing large-scale bankability. The ‘OG’ Assassin’s Creed had the most classic RPG mechanics which the developers have tried to bring back in Mirage. If the rumors are to be believed, it seems like Ubisoft might have decided to cater to the fan demand.

By the time the second game arrived, starring the endlessly charismatic Ezio Auditore, the series was in a much better way and over the years that followed, Ubisoft honed in on fans living the fantasy assassin life.

However, with the arrival of Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017, despite ultimately being a stealth game, it leaned heavily into the RPG genre with an open world and approach to missions as well as its XP and skill tree systems. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the series post-2017, but it is a far cry from what it once was.

So when Assassin’s Creed Mirage was officially announced in September 2022 and promised to take the series back to its roots, veteran fans were bursting with excitement. Yet, that’s not to say that we won’t see the end of the RPG era, but it still might be coming to an end soon, that’s at least according to an industry insider.
