Argentina are considering putting Lionel Messi on their banknotes after the legendary player led them to their third-ever FIFA World Cup trophy.

The mega final of FIFA World Cup 2022 saw Argentina beat defending champions France by 4-2 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

A new 1,000 peso currency featuring Messi’s image has been discussed since the talismanic striker led Argentina to their first World Cup victory since 1986.

According to the publication El Financiero, the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina has reportedly been brainstorming ideas to commemorate the historic victory of the national team in Qatar.

Fans are excited to see the 1,000 peso note go into circulation, and mock-ups of the note have now gone viral.
