Who is Andre August?

Born in Houston, August has a 10-1-1 record with five wins via knockout. At the amateur level, he was a three-time regional Golden Gloves Champion and a two-time Texas state runner-up.

August turned pro in 2013. The 35-year-old has won five straight after suffering his first defeat in his sixth contest. He last competed in August, beating Brandon Martin, which was his first fight in almost four years. The combined record of his opponents before facing him was 34-65-6, and three were making their professional debut.

August does have the experience after spending a decade as a professional boxer and part-time promoter.

The problem is, the bruising Beaumont, Texas native’s own resume is similarly lacking.

Yes, August is on a five-fight winning streak and he recently beat previously undefeated cruiserweight prospect Brandon Martin. But that unanimous-decision victory was just his third over a fighter with a winning record.

He has two wins and a draw against fighters making their debuts, and his knockouts of Ramiro Garcia and Jeremie Parks are somewhat tainted by the pair’s combined 6-29-4 record.

But that’s not to say August is a total scrub.

YouTube clips from previous bouts show the orthodox August has a solid hook with either arm, as well as an ability to absorb punches.

Jake Paul returns to the ring to face what could conceivably be his toughest opponent to date when he takes on Andre August at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida on December 15. The action will air on DAZN worldwide.

Having competed almost exclusively against MMA fighters, Paul fought an 8-0 Tommy Fury in February. The former lost the fight, though he was credited with scoring a knockdown against the half-brother of Tyson Fury in the final round.

Paul returned to the ring column by outpointing Nate Diaz in August and looks to close out the year with another victory.

If he beats August, Paul wants recognition as a ranked cruiserweight before fighting for a world title. What’s more, August’s only loss came at the hands of Eric Abraham, who scored a TKO win despite entering the bout with a 3-3 record. Abraham is now just 7-16.

Worst of all, the December 15 marks the first time August is fighting in a bout that is scheduled for eight rounds. So while he does have more overall experience than Paul, he’s never fought beyond the sixth, as the former YouTuber has in four of his last five bouts.

The bottom line is, while Paul is trying to prove himself against an actual boxer, he’s unlikely to change anyone’s opinion about his ability by beating a 35-year-old with a questionable resume.
