After 7 years at Borussia Dortmund, Raphael Guerreiro is leaving the club.

Raphael Guerreiro is reportedly set to leave Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires at the end of the season.

After months of speculation, Raphael Guerreiro has finally made the decision to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season. According to BILD, the BVB bosses bid farewell to the left-back behind the scenes on Sunday. The tabloid claims that Guerreiro wants a new challenge, and is said to be attracting the interest of Atletico Madrid and clubs in England.

Borussia Dortmund were hoping to keep Guerreiro at the club, and had offered him a two-year extension to his current contract. But the Portuguese international has seemingly turned down the club’s offer of a new deal and will now leave on a free transfer when his current contract expires in the summer.

In the evening, BVB posted a photo on Twitter showing captain Marco Reus handing the weeping Guerreiro a framed jersey with his number 13 and signatures of teammates. In addition, the club wrote that it was an “emotional farewell” not only from the Portuguese, but also from Anthony Modeste, Mahmoud Dahoud, Felix Passlack and Luca Unbehaun.

A change does not come as a surprise. On the Internet, photos were recently seen that showed Guerreiro packing boxes. In addition, the technician’s contract expires this summer after seven years in the BVB jersey. He is said to have rejected an offer from the Revierclub to extend for another two years. According to media speculation, Atlético Madrid is interested in signing the left-back, who was most recently deployed in Dortmund’s midfield./bue/DP/zb
