A man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Sydney woman Dannielle Finlay-Jones, following a lengthy standoff with police in the Blue Mountains.
The 33-year-old Ashley Gaddie was taken into custody on Tuesday after authorities searched for him in relation to Finlay-Jones’ death.
Finlay-Jones, a 31-year-old student support officer for the Department of Education and soccer player, was found with serious injuries at a friend’s home in Cranebrook, Western Sydney on Sunday afternoon and pronounced dead at the scene.
Gaddie was charged at the Katoomba police station and is set to appear in Penrith Local Court today, with bail denied. Authorities in the Blue Mountains region responded to a call at Fletchers Lookout in Wentworth Falls around noon yesterday, where they found a man, identified as Mr. Gaddie, on the wrong side of safety barriers. Police negotiators were brought in to speak with him, and he was eventually taken into custody early this morning.
The investigation into the death of Ms. Finlay-Jones is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith stated that the investigation is still in its early stages and that there are complexities that need to be unravelled by homicide investigators. A warrant has been issued in connection with the case.
