A former Coppin State basketball player has filed a lawsuit against his assistant coach for allegedly manipulating him into sending nude photos and, blackmailing him into filming a sexual encounter.
In the lawsuit, Coppin State Assistant coach Lucian Brownlee was accused of allegedly catfishing former Coppin State basketball player Ibn Williams by posing as a woman in an online relationship. Brownlee persuaded Williams to send photos and sexual text messages during their online conversations in order to keep “her” interested in their relationship. Although Williams expected the relationship to progress, it devolved into something sinister when the catfisher threatened to release the explicit material if he did not send more sexual images. Williams gave in to the demands because he was afraid of losing his scholarship.
Williams “continued to respond to the person messaging him in a futile attempt to appease his tormentor,” according to The Root, and his head basketball coach, Juan Dixon, was named in the complaint for failing to take action. He is known as the husband of ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ star Robyn Dixon and reportedly forced Williams to attend practice the following day after learning about the blackmailing. Coppin State was also accused of failing to support Williams by questioning him extensively about the situation and blaming him for bringing bad publicity to the school by withdrawing his financial aid and housing.
