A film about the OceanGate Titan submersible tragedy is reportedly in development.
Mindriot’s Justin MacGregor and Jonathan Keasey will co-write the OceanGate movie, which will cover the periods before, during, and after the tragedy. “The Titan Tragedy is yet another example of a misinformed and quick-to-pounce system, in this case, our nonstop, 24-7 media cycle that convicts and ruins the lives of so many people without any due process,” Keasey said. “Our film will not only honor all those involved in the submersible tragedy, and their families, but the feature will serve as a vessel that also addresses a more macro concern about the nature of media today.“
The harrowing tragedy of the OceanGate Titan submersible, which captured global attention, is set to be adapted into a feature film titled ‘Salvaged.’ This cinematic venture is being produced by E. Brian Dobbins, known for his recent work on the summer comedy horror ‘The Blackening.’
After James Cameron commented on the tragedy, rumours spread that he would be making an OceanGate movie, but he quickly shot them down. “I don’t respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now,” Cameron wrote on X/Twitter. “I’m NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever.“
In June 2023, the Titan submersible became the center of international focus when it vanished during a deep-sea expedition near the Titanic wreckage in the Atlantic Ocean. This ill-fated vessel lost contact with its mother ship a mere 1 hour and 45 minutes into the dive. With the crew facing diminishing oxygen supplies in the high-pressure depths, their fate was cast in uncertainty. Four days following the sub’s disappearance, a remotely operated underwater vehicle discovered debris near the Titanic wreck, strongly suggesting that the Titan submersible had succumbed to the immense pressure and imploded.
