A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death and 4 others critically injured after a man attacked them while they were tubbing in a Wisconsin river.

According to authorities, more than 20 people were tubbing on the Apple River in Somerset, WI this weekend when the scene went from fun to horrific. The suspect, a 52-year old man, is said to have been part of another party of tubbers when he attacked the group of young people. Many people were witnesses to the fatal attack that left one 17-year-old dead and 4 others, aged in their early 20s, critically injured. Police were able to find the suspect after one of the witnesses took a picture of the man during the incident. Sheriff Scott Knudsen described the incident as “chaotic” and “scary”.

“I am sure anyone who witnessed this will never forget it. It is a tragedy,” Knudsen said. “We’re actually in the process of trying to divert some of the tubing traffic around our crime scene,” he said. “That alone is causing some challenges trying to get them off the river, and gathering up what we can in a hard-to-get-to area.”

Police are currently investigating to find a motive for the attack. The suspect has been arrested and charges will be made on Monday.
