Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Drew Barrymore is being called a scab after her crew kicked out audience wearing WGA pins to her show.

The move is controversial for a few reasons. Most network talks shows have remained dark during the strike, and Barrymore backed out of hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards in May in “solidarity with the strike,” she said at the time.

With the news of the show’s return, WGA members plan to picket CBS Broadcast Center in Manhattan, where the show is shot, on Monday and Tuesday. The picket line there is set to continue Sept. 19-21, according to the WGA on Strike website.

“The Drew Barrymore Show is a destination for entertainment, information, and important conversations,” the company said. “Composed of exclusive celebrity interviews, unique lifestyle segments, social media influencers and feel-good news stories, it is the show’s mission to touch all aspects of life through Drew’s unique optimistic lens.”

The nationally syndicated daytime show is produced and distributed by CBS Media Ventures and filmed in New York City. Drew Barrymore and Jason Kurtz are executive producers.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Barrymore explained her decision.

“I made a choice to walk away from the MTV, film and television awards because I was the host and it had a direct conflict with what the strike was dealing with which was studios, streamers, film, and television,” she explained. “It was also in the first week of the strike and so I did what I thought was the appropriate thing at the time to stand in solidarity with the writers. And to be clear, our talk show actually wrapped on April 20th so we never had to shut down the show. However, I am also making the choice to come back for the first time in this strike for our show, that may have my name on it but this is bigger than just me.

“I own this choice,” she continued. “We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind. We launched live in a global pandemic. Our show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real time. I want to be there to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience. I hope for a resolve for everyone as soon as possible. We have navigated difficult times since we first came on air. And so I take a step forward to start season 4 once again with an astute humility.”

Reactions to Barrymore’s decision from her 17.3 million followers is mixed. Within an hour of her posting the message, it had more than 84,000 likes. “MOTHER DREW DOES IT AGAIN!” wrote one follower.

The Drew Barrymore Show returns for season four with a lineup of key guests and influencers and welcomes the newest Drew Crew member celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton. Appleton joins Drew’s team of lifestyle experts, including Drew’s news co-anchor Ross Mathews, interior designer Mikel Welch, chef Pilar Valdes and sustainable living guru Danny Seo, who will continue to provide viewers with valuable tips and takeaway.
