According to league rules, Kai Jones could be fined up to $150K for publicly requesting a trade.

Third-year center Kai Jones wants out of Charlotte. Monday afternoon, the Hornets center posted on Twitter (X) that he has requested to be traded from the organization. By posting his desire to be traded, Jones could be slapped with a $150k fine, according to the CBA.

Everyone who has followed this situation closely probably saw this coming. Jones has been away from the team since they returned to Charlotte for voluntary workouts and did not participate in training camp.

The former 2021 first-round draft pick has had minimal impact through his first two seasons, averaging 2.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game. It’s highly unlikely that the Hornets will get much of anything in return for Jones given his small sample size and limited production. However, another team out there may be willing to take a chance on what is still a first-round talent that needs a change of scenery.
