Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Barcelona want Florentino Luis for their number 6 position for €40M.

The 24-year-old Portuguese youth international has turned heads while playing for Benfica and many tip him for a jump to the next level.

Barcelona are still looking for a replacement for Sergio Busquets, as Oriol Romeu, who was brought in as a cheap replacement, has not covered the hole fully.

The problem is a lack of funds to make the transfers happen. And Luís won’t come cheap; his release clause is set at 120 million euro.

However, the Catalans think he’d be available for around 40 million. Even then, that’s not a cheap price for that kind of player. Therefore, it’s understood that the most likely scenario is that Barcelona will keep scouring the market for a more affordable option.

Barça, too, have taken note of the defensive midfielder’s qualities and are seeing him as an option for the summer of 2024.

Florentino Luis did not have the best start to the current season and was finding minutes hard to come by. But he is starting to gain prominence at Benfica again in recent weeks, which could make a transfer complicated.

€120 million release clause

The report goes on to state that Florentino Luis’ contract with Benfica, which runs until the summer of 2027, comes with a massive release clause worth €120 million.

However, Barcelona believe that they can negotiate a lower price with the Portuguese heavyweights and get the 24-year-old for a fee worth around €40 million.

Benfica, though, have a reputation for getting big money for their assets and given Barça’s financial conditions, a move for Florentino Luis could be difficult to pull off.
