Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that 1000 earthquakes reported in 24 hours in Grindavík, Iceland.
JUST IN: State of Emergency has been declared in Iceland after the country has experienced over 1000 earthquakes in the Grindavik area.
Since late October, the Grindavik area has experienced over 24,000 tremors.
Icelandic authorities are now fearing that a volcanic eruption may be eminent which could impact the popular TikToker destination, the Blue Lagoon. (Video below)
“The National police chief… declares a state of emergency for civil defence due to the intense earthquake (activity) at Sundhnjukagigar, north of Grindavik” said the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management.
“Earthquakes can become larger than those that have occurred and this series of events could lead to an eruption.”
The Icelandic Met Office added that an eruption could be “several days” away.
The Grindavik village has a population of 4000 and is just two miles from where earthquakes registered.
The Blue Lagoon, a popular tourist destination, is also in danger of being impacted.
Evacuation plans are in place.
