Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Walmart lock up their underwear and socks.

Over the past several months, many corporations have faced a rise in retail thefts prompting some such as Walmart and Target, to implement additional security measures.

On X, formerly Twitter, user @WallStreetSilv shared a photo on Thursday of several pairs of jeans locked behind glass security doors that would require an employee to open in order for a customer to purchase them.

But Dallas retailers wouldn’t be going to the expense of adding locked cases and more security guard hours if they didn’t have a theft problem, Lopez said.

Kroger said its new safety measures were a response to a rise in theft. “Those determinations are made on a store-by-store basis. Walmart will continue to explore additional ways to protect its merchandise, keep prices low and keep product in stock for the millions of customers it serves each week,” the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, X user @TTEcclesBrown responded to @WallStreetSilv’s post and wrote on Thursday, “Walmart is locking just about everything up in high-theft areas!” The post also included a video showing items such as air fresheners and cleaning supplies locked up behind glass doors. Many cities saw a decline in shoplifting during the COVID-19 pandemic because more of their stores were closed. That wasn’t the case in Dallas, where shoplifting rates were flat throughout the pandemic but started to rise in November and December of last year, said Ernesto Lopez, a research specialist and co-author of the council’s report.

“Going into 2023, you start to see the steady climb in shoplifting in Dallas,” he said.

So far this year, shoplifting cases reported to the Dallas Police Department increased by 56.1% from the same period last year ended on Nov. 5.
