Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Veteran sports writer, Jermaine Craig, passed out at the gym while working out as he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Respected sports journalist and former 2010 Fifa World Cup bid and local organising committee (LOC) communications head Jermaine Craig has died.
Craig’s family confirmed his death in a statement, saying he collapsed at a gym on Monday morning and was taken to a hospital in Sandton.
“The family of Jermaine Craig is saddened to inform you of his passing this morning,” the statement read.
“Jermaine collapsed while at gym and was rushed to the Sandton Mediclinic where efforts to revive him failed.
As South Africa prepared to host the 2010 World Cup, Craig joined the Local Organising Committee as its communications and media manager, and following the successful staging of the World Cup, he moved to South African Tourism as its global communications manager.
In 2013, he returned to Cape Town and the Independent Media Group when he took up the role of Cape Argus editor, replacing former editor Gasant Abarder at the time.
He then served served as the executive for brand marketing at Independent Media after his tenure as editor of the Cape Argus.
