Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Mayor, Valérie Plante, fainted while giving speech during a press conference.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante was said to be on the mend after a brief scare at City Hall Tuesday morning.

During a weekly news conference held in the Hall d’honneur on the second floor of City Hall, Plante was standing in front of a microphone, answering a journalist’s question, and in mid sentence, went silent, turned around and sat down on the platform where she was standing. Her aides rushed to her side and after a few minutes helped her walk to an elevator.

“The mayor felt unwell and fortunately, she is out of danger,” the message from the mayor’s office said. “She will receive all the required medical support and thanks the public for their support.”

Plante had been speaking and answering questions for about 15 minutes before the incident, with no obvious signs of illness.

An ambulance was called to transport her to a hospital, and paramedics entered the building, but the mayor declined transport and the ambulance left without a patient aboard. Catherine Cadotte, one of Plante’s assistants, said she appeared to be in stable condition.

“The mayor experienced a malaise, and fortunately, she is out of danger,” Cadotte wrote in a statement that was also posted on X. “She will receive all the medical treatment that is needed and thanks the public for its support.”

Aref Salem, the leader of opposition Ensemble Montréal, posted a statement on X saying his thoughts are with the mayor and that he wished her a speedy recovery.
