Somizi Mhlongo says Mbongeni Ngema sent him the WhatsApp message on Tuesday and it felt like he was saying goodbye.
Somizi Mhlongo continues to say that Mbongeni Ngema called him on Tuesday reminding him that he is a star and was asked by Mbongeni Ngema to join his production.
South African playwright and musician, Mbongeni Ngema has passed away on Wednesday evening. He was 68.
Ngema died in a head-on car accident while returning from attending a funeral in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape.
He was a passenger in the vehicle.
The news of his passing was confirmed by Ngema family spokesperson Abbey Makoe.
Ngema was best known for his award-winning works which include Sarafina and Woza Albert.
Born in 1955 in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, Ngema started his career as a theatre backing guitarist. He wrote the musical Sarafina! and co-wrote Woza Albert!, both of which won numerous awards.
Ngema also became a household name for writing numerous hit songs, including the classic Stimela sa se Zola.
