Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Mathapelo Tepanyega ran away with over R200K belonging to a stockvel group in Mohlakeng and Zenzele.

A woman named Mathapelo Tepanyega, believed to be around 38 years old, has allegedly disappeared with over R200,000 belonging to a stockvel group in Mohlakeng and Zenzele.

Mathapelo was trusted by the stockvel members to keep their savings safe, claiming her husband had a secure safe at their home at Mohlakeng Ext 4. She had been collecting money from the group since January, until it was now time to distribute the funds among the members.

On Tuesday, December 10th, Mathapelo told the group that she had been depositing the money into her Capitec account for added safety. However, she claimed her account had been frozen by SARS because she needed to pay R15,000 in taxes. She asked the group for this amount from the December contributions, saying she would repay it from her share. READ MORE HERE

She then went with another member of the stockvel to supposedly pay this R15 000 but they went to Capitec and she deposited the money in her account and claimed the account had been unfreezed and said she will withdraw it the following day.

When the group waited for her the following day, Mathapelo was nowhere to be found. She has since blocked all stockvel members on her phone and social media.

It has now emerged that Mathapelo had been gambling on a game called “Push Push” and allegedly lost the entire R200,000 in the process.

The stockvel members, many of whom are elderly and relied on this money, are devastated. Some had been saving their grant money all year for December expenses. One member, Malerato, told Kurrently: “We haven’t even bought clothes for our children. Some of us were supposed to get R12,000 after saving all year, but now it’s all gone.”
