Nigerian Telegraph has written an open apology letter to Toke Makinwa over fake news, which was published on their site on Monday.
According to the fake news published by “Gistmerchant Blog” and republished on Nigerian Telegraph, it stated that Toke Makinwa’s Banana Island mansion has been taken over by AMCON.
Nigerian Telegraph open apology letter to Toke reads, “Nigerian Telegraph wishes to render unreserved apology to Toke Makinwa, media personality, over an article that was REPUBLISHED on our platform on 27th of July 2020.
As a reputable platform, we encourage the Use of Social media and the internet for the promotion of facts to advance societal growth and harmony.
It’s important to emphasize the said news was lifted from other platforms notably the report was credited to “Gistmerchant Blog”, also the report appeared on many social media platforms.
Nigerian Telegraph will not be a party to promotion of falsehood and tarnishing of image of individuals who rely on it for accurate information.
We wish to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience, harm caused by our publication.
The public apology serves as a remedy to whatever harm, misinformation our Re-publication of the news may have caused.
It has since been pulled down after we verified the report to be false.
