Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that fire has gutted some parts of Lafenwa Market in Ogun State, after a tanker explosion in the early hours of Sunday morning. (Read More Here).
According to a source who reached out to Kossyderrickent says that the the tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly called petrol, overturned yesterday night at Lafenwa Market, spilling its content on the ground.
The marketers were told not to open their shops today (Sunday) so that they can work on the tanker to avoid explosion. According to our source says that some hoodlums in the market began to smoke Indian hemp, which caused the fire outbreak.
Another source says that people were scooping the fuel on the ground when the explosion occurred. According to information, over four people have been reported dead.
A source says:
“The tanker broke down yesterday night and the road was condoned off. Firefighters were stationed at the axis of d market and market. People were not allowed to open their shops. Meanwhile some miscreant were busy *getting high* (smoking indian hemp) at the market. No one knows precisely what happened, the tanker just exploded and the content spilled to d market. Thank God that the was blocked since yesterday night when the tanker broke down else casualty will be much higher.”
Superintendent Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe and Public Education Unit Office for Sector Commander FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Ahmed Umar, confirmed the occurrence of the overturned fuel tanker on Sunday morning.
Okpe advised members of the public and residents to vacate the vicinity, while operatives of the FRSC, TRACE, POLICE, FIRE SERVICE and other 1st responders resolve the emergency.
She stated, “A tanker laden with fuel which overturned while making its way inbound Rounder from Oju-Irin, Lafenwa Abeokuta Ogun State, is now engulfed in fire, but due to the uncooperative attitude of people around the axis through scooping of fuel and other unwholesome act which sparked off the fire.
“The general public is advised to vacate the vicinity, while FRSC, TRACE, POLICE, FIRE SERVICE and other 1st responders resolve the latest emergency.”
