According to information, the fire started early on Friday noon. The fire started from China Mall building in Durban CBD.
Medics have confirmed that 11 people have been rescued and moved to a hospital nearby for urgent treatment and attention.
Firefighters on ground confirmed that unnumbered set of people are still trapped in the building. Apparently, a few South Africans are happy about the situation, because most of the workers aren’t South Africans but foreigners.
Speaking from the scene, Van Reenen said paramedics had witnessed people trapped in the building breaking windows and trying to climb out, in order to escape the flames.
“Two people have been rescued from the upper floors and are being attended to by paramedics. They are in a moderate condition. It is believed that all occupants have been rescued however final sweeps are being conducted floor by floor,” said Van Reenen.
