Office of the Ombudsman junks direct and indirect bribery complaints vs ex-Sen Leila de Lima and ex-bodyguard Ronnie Dayan over the P8M bribe De Lima allegedly received from self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa.
De Lima, thru Dayan, allegedly received P8M from Espinosa on various occasions from 2015-2016 supposedly to finance her senatorial bid.
Both denied the allegations. De Lima said Dayan already resigned from the DOJ in March 2015.
Espinosa had earlier recanted his claims vs De Lima, including the alleged P8M bribe.
His recantation however was not the basis for the Ombudsman’s ruling, which relied on inconsistencies in the statements of Espinosa and Adorco.
Another witness, Marcelo Adorco, also retracted his allegations vs Espinosa and De Lima.
Adorco denied Espinosa was involved in illegal drug trade and admitted the photo of Espinosa and De Lima in Baguio was taken from Facebook, given to him by police.
