West Java Deputy Governor Suggests Polygamous Husbands So Wives Don’t Get HIV/AIDS.

Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum suggested that husbands be allowed to polygamy to reduce the number of HIV/AIDS sufferers among housewives.

The law also asks married men to stop “snacking at random” which has the potential to transmit HIV/AIDS to their wives and children.

“Instead of as if he (husband) didn’t like it, but ended up getting (HIV/AIDS) on his own wife, yet religion also gives the green light as long as it’s ready to be fair, why not? like that, it is better to be given the freedom for polygamy,” said Uu in a written statement received by CNNIndonesia.com , Tuesday (30/8).

According to Uu, a husband must be able to communicate with his wives if he feels he has the ability to practice polygamy. He admitted that he is ready to facilitate people who want to remarry in order to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

“If the community wants to get married, there is no cost, why not? I will consult with the Governor to have a program (mass marriage), we, the government must respond to the wishes of the community, if necessary, the provincial government holds a mass wedding for those who do not have the money,” he said.

“Most of them are 20-29 years old, the percentage is 44.84 percent, very productive age,” said Sis Silvia Dewi, Chair of the Bandung City KPA Secretariat, Tuesday (23/8).

Dewi detailed that as of December 2021, there were 12,358 people with HIV AIDS who provided health services in the city of Bandung. In detail, 5,943 of them are residents of the city of Bandung.
