Pennsylvanians with minor, nonviolent, marijuana criminal convictions could soon be pardoned thanks to a new process that begins Thursday.
The project, presented by Pennsylvania Gov. #TomWolf and Lt. Gov. #JohnFetterman, aims to pardon as many qualifying people as possible before the Governor leaves office in January.
“I have repeatedly called on our Republican-led General Assembly to support the legalization of adult-use marijuana, but they’ve yet to meet this call for action from myself and Pennsylvanians,” Gov. Wolf said in the release. “Until they do, I am committed to doing everything in my power to support Pennsylvanians who have been adversely affected by a minor marijuana offense on their record.”
The project allows anyone who has been convicted of possession of marijuana or small amount of personal use to apply. However, the conviction had to have taken place in Pennsylvania, and only those without additional convictions on their record are eligible. Individuals who qualify are encouraged to submit applications between Sept. 1, 2022 and Sept. 30, 2022.
