At least one person has been killed and six injured in a shooting incident Sunday afternoon at a shopping mall in the Mexican city of Zapopan, in the state of Jalisco (west), authorities have confirmed. (Read More Here).




The incident was reportedly caused by an attempted kidnapping in the area, located in the vicinity of Plaza Andares, which prompted the intervention of army soldiers who were on the scene and heard the shots.


The Jalisco prosecutor, Luis Joaquín Méndez, has detailed that among the wounded are two of the suspects, an escort of the person who was supposedly going to be kidnapped and three people who were at the scene, as reported by the Mexican newspaper ‘El Sol de México’.


Méndez emphasized that the two suspects, who are in custody, will be handed over to the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena). Police and Army reinforcements have been sent to the scene, as well as a helicopter for aerial patrol duties.
