A private bus caught fire after colliding with a truck on Aurangabad Road in Maharashtra’s Nashik city on Saturday morning, killing at least 12 people and injuring several others. (READ MORE HERE).
A resident deputy collector, Bhagwat Doifode, confirmed the accident and the number of fatalities. Gangatharan T, the District Collector, has also arrived on the scene.
More than 20 other people were injured in the accident and taken to a civil hospital for treatment. A Mumbai-bound private bus traveling from Pusad collided head on with a Pune-bound truck traveling from Dhule on the Nashik-Aurangabad Road around 5.20 a.m.
The Nashik fire department received a call at 5.30 a.m., and three fire tenders were dispatched. Locals and police responded to the accident scene and transported the injured to the hospital.
The Mumbai-bound bus from Yawatmal had 30 passengers, according to Nashik police commissioner Jayant Naiknavare.
