A 50-year-old Limpopo prosecutor has been convicted of corruption for asking for a R6 000 bribe to make a case “disappear”. (Read More Here).
In 2020, Leonard Ratshilumela asked for a bribe from the mother of a minor accused of reckless and negligent driving charges.
The case was then reported to the Hawks, who arrested him after a sting operation in Thohoyandou.
He was convicted on Monday by the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court. He will be sentenced on 21 November 2022.
According to Hawks Limpopo spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke, Ratshilumela’s legal troubles are not over yet.
While on bail for the bribery case, Ratshilumela was re-arrested after allegedly trying to kill witnesses.
He is facing four counts of attempted murder and one count of attempted arson. He allegedly used petrol to burn down a key witness house in Mukula village.
