A Wisconsin man was charged with a hate crime after cutting off his neighbor’s cable and claimed they didn’t deserve it because they were “illegal” Mexicans.

The incident occurred last month at an apartment in Eau Claire where a cable worker visited Shannon Pearson’s apartment.

Pearson accused his upstairs neighbors of being illegal immigrants and “should not be able to get cable.” However, during an interview with police, Pearson claimed the cable worker became scared and “cut” the upstairs neighbor’s cable. He added that he went to their apartment to confront them about their citizen status but was “pushed” down the stairs.

The employee told police their side of events and said that Pearson came outside, screamed “racist things” during the installation, and cut the wire. During his police interview, Pearson claimed his neighbors didn’t deserve to have cable and entered the country illegally.
