A video of Najib Razak that aired on TV1 recently is old footage, the Prisons Department confirmed.

It added that there were no video recordings of the jailed former prime minister made by any media agencies in the prison premises.

 “Video terbabit sudah dirakam lebih awal oleh pihak RTM sempena Kembara Keluarga Malaysia Episod 57 iaitu sebelum Najib dipenjarakan,” the Prisons Department said. 

“Video ditayangkan menceritakan tentang sejarah dan latar belakang Pekan dan tidak berkaitan dengan politik.”

The Prisons Department also urged the public not to spread unverified information.

“Tindakan undang-undang boleh diambil ke atas individu yang tidak bertanggungjawab,” it said.

This comes as screenshots of the video had gone viral on social media with many questioning why a prisoner was allowed to film TV segments. 

Some netizens also claimed that Najib was campaigning for GE15.
