Ryan Murphy reveals that Evan Peters told him that he wants to “play someone normal” and do a romantic comedy after playing so many intense roles.

Taking on a role like this requires a lot of care because, as Evan Peters says, it’s important to respect the victims and not sympathize with the killer. He has spent a lot of time figuring out how to play Jeffrey Dahmer and said it was incredibly difficult. In an interview with Ryan Murphy Productions he elaborated on why such care needed to be taken saying:

We had one rule going into this from Ryan that it would never be told from Dahmer’s point of view. As an audience, you’re not really sympathizing with him. You’re not really getting into his plight. You’re more sort of watching it, you know, from the outside.

Aside from Peters, the series also stars Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, Michael Learned and Niecy Nash. Murphy and Brennan created and executive produce the show alongside Peters, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Janet Mock and Carl Franklin.

“Over the course of 10 powerful episodes, Dahmer shines a spotlight on the as-yet untold stories of Dahmer’s victims, the people who tried to stop him and the systemic failures that enabled him to continue his murderous spree for over a decade,” a post from the Ryan Murphy Productions Instagram account read. “Which is why we needed two trailers to properly showcase the complex story.” Expect a second trailer to arrive on September 20 at 8 p.m. PT.

Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will premiere on Netflix on September 21. Watch the first official trailer above. The series will be produced by Netflix and will arrive on September 21 to the catalog. It will have a total of 8 episodes, in which Evan will be in most of them. The streaming platform released the first teaser of what will be the suspense and crime production on Friday, September 16 and the final trailer will be released on Thursday, September 22.

The miniseries will focus on Jeffrey Dahmer, one of the most macabre killers of the century. He managed to kill 15 men and boys through different methods, such as cannibalism, mutilation and necrophilia. The production will tell the story of his origins through his eyes and how the police let him go free when they saw him as harmless, giving him free rein to go on a killing spree over the years. It will focus on the circumstances surrounding them and not so much on the details of the murders.
