Kenya Wildlife Services dismiss reports doing rounds on various media platforms that there was a volcanic eruption at Mt. Longonot last night.




In a statement, KWS says there was a fire outbreak on the Southern side of Mt. Longonot, which has since been put out.


“We assure our visitor and partners that the park is safe to visit,” – KWS.


Kenya Wildlife wrote: “A fire outbreak on the southern side of Mt. Longonot N. Park reported on October 27, 2022, has been put out.

An emergency response team dispatched to the area managed to contain and finally extinguish the inferno early this morning.


The fire ravaged about 40 hectares of bushland. We wish to confirm to the public that there was no volcanic eruption of the mountain as reported in some media platforms.


We assure our visitors and partners that the park is safe to visit.
