UKM has removed a dress code advisory for graduates and guests at a convocation ceremony, after it sparked backlash from social media users.
Several netizens questioned why the saree and cheongsam were listed in the prohibited category.
“UKM is this true? Why are you, a university, practising supremacist policies? Please STOP,” an internet user,” said Twitter user annejames44.
However other netizens argued the advisory wasn’t meant to prohibit traditional wear, but was to stop people showing too much skin.
