A Singaporean tutor has been sentenced to 4 days’ jail after he punched and flicked an eight-year-old student’s arm for giving wrong answers during a mathematics lesson.

Court documents show that 56-year-old Teo Thian Hoe assaulted the girl twice.

The first incident occurred on March 18, when the two were alone in a study room.

He lost his temper after the girl gave incorrect answers to his mathematics questions.

In addition to flicking and punching her arm, Teo also grabbed her head and pushed it downwards.

Teo repeated his same methods of punishment on March 22. The girl’s father later lodged a police report after discovering what happened.

Teo told the court that he regretted his actions, adding he lost his temper as the girl was a “slow learner” and was not interested.

The 56-year-old also says he has no plans to continue teaching and wants to move on with his semi-retirement.

Teo will begin serving his sentence on November 7th.
