A Thai #YouTube personality named Phonchanok Srisunaklua has reportedly been arrested after uploading a video of herself eating several bats from a bowl of soup.

The clip, which has already been widely shared on TikTok, was posted to her account on Monday, as viewers are shown Phonchanok seemingly enjoying her meal while describing the taste of the mammal as “delicious.”

The video gained so much attention that even the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conversation spoke out, saying that frying and/or cooking bats with hot water does not necessarily kill all of the germs linked to them. It’s particularly threatening as bats are said to carry up to 10,000 viruses that could easily be passed over to humans when they are consumed — cooked or not.

Per Daily Mail, the woman has since been arrested for possession of protected wildlife carcasses and crimes violating the Computer Crimes Act, and she’s reportedly facing up to five years in jail. Socialites, could we be looking at another pandemic if these bat-eating stories continue to emerge?
