A distraught grandmother of an eight-year-old boy who was mauled to death by a pitbull at his home in Vista Park, Bloemfontein, says the incident has tormented the family.
Siphiwe Litabe says she witnessed the vicious attack on her grandson, Olebogeng Mosime, who struggled to break loose from the grip of the raging beast.
It is alleged that the dog escaped from its enclosure, jumped over the fence and went to the neighbour’s premises.
It then attacked the child, biting him severely on the neck and chest.
The boy was declared dead on the scene.
The dog has been put down.
The SPCA spokesperson in Bloemfontein, Reinet Meyer, says they have removed other dogs from the same property.
Meyer has pleaded with the owners of aggressive animals to hand them over to the SPCA.
