Daniel Ogbonna has been indicted on charges of fraud and is set to stand trial at the Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos, Nigeria.

The prosecution alleges that in August 2021, Ogbonna, along with a female administrative worker named Ngozi Ugwu, defrauded a member of the Yaba Catholic church by requesting a large sum of money under the pretext of investing it and returning it with an additional N5m within six weeks.

Ogbonna presented himself as an investor in the Grace Families and Friends scheme and is accused of collecting a total of N1,424,000 from the victim.

The police prosecutor stated that Ogbonna’s actions violated several sections of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, including sections 411, 168, 315 (1), and were punishable under Section 316 (b).

Ogbonna pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail of N300,000 with two guarantors of the same amount.

The case has been adjourned until January 31, 2023, for trial.
