Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that A ground crew worker at a regional Alabama airport was Killed after being
“ingested into the engine” of a parked plane.
The worker was “ingested” into the aircraft engine while an American Airlines Embraer 170 was parked at the gate with its parking brake set at Montgomery Regional Airport, the NTSB said in a statement to Insider on Sunday.
The agency said it has opened an investigation into the accident. “A preliminary report is expected in two to three weeks,” the statement read.
Montgomery Regional Airport said on Saturday that a fatal industrial accident occurred around 3 p.m., and that the worker was employed by Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of the American Airlines Group.
“We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines,” said Wade A. Davis, the airport’s executive director. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
American Airlines confirmed the death of the Piedmont employee in a statement to Insider, saying it was “devastated by the accident.”
“We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time,” the statement said.
The person died while one of the plane’s engines was running, Reuters reported, citing two people briefed on the findings of the initial investigation.

American Airlines did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking additional information.
All flights outbound and inbound via Montgomery were initially grounded. Airport operations resumed around 9 p.m. Saturday.
The accident happened at the site of a parked Embraer E175 for American Airlines flight 3408, operated by regional carrier Envoy Air. The flight had been scheduled for departure to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, but the flight was canceled after the incident.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating, which is standard for aircraft-related accidents involving injuries and fatalities. The FAA said NTSB would be in charge of the investigation and would provide additional updates.
According to the airport, all passengers with planned flights should check directly with American Airlines for status changes.
