Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Mike Tyson was making $30 Million a fight before getting sentenced to 3 years in prison…. However he said his days in prison were the best days of his life.
Mike Tyson is one of the greatest sports figures in the history of the world, when he was in his prime he had what he wanted, nothing was denied to him, he was the king of the world.
“Iron Mike” was feared, his punches were devastating, people paid thousands of dollars to see him destroy his opponent in 30 seconds, it was an incredible spectacle.
With fame came money, women, vices and false friends. He also believed he was all powerful, at last he had the world at his feet.
In 1992 he went to jail when he was accused by Desiree Washington, a Miss Black America contestant, of rape, Tyson denied the accusations, even so, he was imprisoned in the Indiana Youth Center. His sentence was 10 years, 6 in prison and 4 on probation, but because of his good behavior he was in prison for only 3 years. He was released in 1995.
Tyson gave an interview to “The Pivot Podcast”, Following up their much-discussed and rare extensive interview with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, co-hosts and former NFL stars Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor begin the episode expressing their reverence for Tyson.
In the interview Tyson looks relaxed, smokes what appears to be a marijuana cigarette, the former champion looks calm and talked about a sensitive topic such as being in prison.
“I had the best three years of my life in prison,” said Tyson. “I had peace. That money doesn’t mean anything if you don’t have your peace, your stability and your balance. You need your sanity to dictate any part of life.”
“I had good food, everybody was nice to me, they treated me well.”
“I would run around the yard 8 or 9 miles and in the evenings I would jump for four hours, in my cell. Everybody treated me good in jail, they were afraid of me, but I was always a good person.
Tyson was arrested in July 1991 for the alleged rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington, who was Miss Black Rhode Island at the time.
He was convicted in 1992 and sentenced to six years in prison along with four years of probation.
Tyson’s chauffeur, Virginia Foster, confirmed Washington’s state of shock after the incident.
Emergency room physician, Thomas Richardson examined Washington after the incident and confirmed that Washington’s physical condition was consistent with rape.
Tyson was ultimately released in March 1995 after serving less than three years of the sentence.
He is required to register as a Tier II sex offender under federal law for life.
Tyson and Evander Holyfield’s fight might happen although a date has not been set yet.
The two met on the training team for the 1984 Olympics and have fought each other twice.
Holyfield won both times, including the infamous “Bite Fight” in 1997.
“I don’t mind if he wanted to do it, but I’m not going to be the one to say, ‘Let’s do it’ because that’s kind of the bully mentality,” Holyfield said on “Boxing with Chris Mannix.”
