The South African Passport is losing relevance due to impostors with fake passports.

Home Affairs identified 500 fake passports from 2019-22.

Ryanair made passengers fill forms in Afrikaans in an attempt to prevent fake South African passport holders from boarding their planes.

Last year, travellers from Pakistan and Bangladesh were caught attempting to travel to Europe with fake South African passports.  

Corrupt SA Immigration Officers were caught selling the passport for less than $30 (R500).

UK revoked visa free access to South Africans in 2008.
