Bongani Baloyi is reportedly leaving ActionSA over conflict with Mashaba.
The political future of ActionSA’s Gauteng leader, Bongani Baloyi, hangs in the balance after the party confirmed it’s considering changing his role.
This follows reports claiming a spat between Baloyi and party leader Herman Mashaba had caused tensions to flair between the pair.
It’s understood the rift was caused by what the party claims are irreconcilable differences on the running of the provincial structures, and a difference of opinion about policy issues.
The former Midvaal Mayor met with the party’s top leadership structure this past week.
Insiders claim this is the first of a series of discussions, but remain tight-lipped about the exact details.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has refused to comment.
The party’s national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, has also asked for space and time to deal with the matter internally. Another meeting was expected to take place between the two in the coming week, however, it is unclear if this meeting will still take place as there are reports of Baloyi’s plans to step away from the party.
“Baloyi had asked for time prior to a meeting this coming week to consider the matter and we are disappointed that it has appeared in the media prior to this meeting,” reads part of the statement.
ActionSA will give further comment on the matter in due course once discussions have concluded.
