Tom Cruise missed 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars to avoid seeing ex Nicole Kidman in person: report.
He reportedly was MIA because he wanted to avoid an “awkward run-in” with Kidman, 55, whom he divorced more than 20 years ago.
“Tom was not there because she was there, and he did not want a run-in,” a source told the Daily Mail on Monday.
But insiders close to Cruise told the outlet that his absence was “not personal” and instead the result of scheduling issues.
The Post has contacted representatives for Cruise and Kidman for comment. Cruise filed for divorce in February 2001, citing “irreconcilable difference” after allegedly walking out on Kidman that same year.
The move left the “Big Little Lies” actress in utter “shock” as fans suspected that the marriage came to an end due to her refusal to become a Scientologist. “She knows why, and I know why, [we divorced]” Cruise told Vanity Fair in 2013, vowing to keep the reasoning private. “She’s the mother of my children, and I wish her well. And I think that you just move on.
“And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t say that with anything,” he continued. “Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, and there’s a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality.”
Cruise and Kidman married on Dec. 24, 1990, and adopted two children — Isabella, now 29, and Connor, now 27. The Edge of Tomorrow star filed for divorce in February 2001, citing “irreconcilable difference.”
The Mummy star married fellow actress Katie Holmes, 44, on Nov. 18, 2006. The pair had a daughter, Suri, now 16, and divorced in August 2012.
Cruise starring Top Gun: Maverick earned Oscar nomination in categories of Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Original Song, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.
The sequel to original 1986 Top Gun won the Oscar for Best Song, Take My Breath Away.
