As fans wait for details on the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie, a new rumor appears to tease who Marvel’s First Family will fight as their first Marvel Studios villain. (Read More Here).

Viewers know not to expect the iconic Doctor Doom to take that antagonist role, as he’s rumored to only be introduced in a mid or post-credits scene during Fantastic Four.

But considering the quartet’s vast group of antagonists from Marvel Comics, the MCU has a big decision to make regarding who will be this movie’s main villain.

Insider Jeff Sneider revealed on The Hot Mic podcast that Marvel Studios will utilize both Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, as the villains in the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie, coming out in 2025.

Sneider heard that director Matt Shakman has plans to “go very cosmic” with this film, using “both Galactus and the Silver Surfer” in the film: “I’m told that Matt Shakman is planning to go very cosmic with his ‘Fantastic Four’ movie. Lots of 1960s elements, and that the film will feature both Galactus and the Silver Surfer.”

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was a loose adaptation of the comic arc, “The Coming of Galactus” by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and was also the debut of the Silver Surfer. The Surfer was nearly identical to his comic counterpart, from his look to how he carried himself. But the film’s climactic moment saw him facing off with his ruler, the devourer of worlds known as Galactus. That said, while fans expected the humanoid appearance that was made famous in the comics, audiences were instead treated to a massive cloud that only resembled the character through a strange fire that served as Galactus’ essence. Though the cloud shown was far from accurate or appreciated, its form actually makes perfect sense considering what Galactus was.

In this iteration, Galactus was created either before or during the universe’s conception. No matter the exact point of origin, it’s apparent that Galactus may be the oldest entity in that universe. Because of this, it’s unlikely that it had the ability to think beyond a basic desire to do the only thing it was made for: maintain cosmic balance by devouring certain worlds. As a formless entity of primordial power, it also knew that it had to survive, and with raw cosmic power coursing through it, Galactus was able to imbue anyone who wanted it with cosmic energy. The Silver Surfer was a great example of this and likely became its herald as a by-product of his transformation to save his planet.
