La Liga champions Barcelona want to sign Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
It could take €100,000,000 to bring him to Spain. Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
After being signed from Lyon for an initial 42.1m fee in January 2022, Guimaraes has established himself as an integral player in Eddie Howe’s side and as a fan favourite.
Guimaraes registered five goals and five assists in 40 competitive appearances in the 2022-23 season, helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League and reach the EFL Cup final.
Barcelona interested in Newcastle’s Guimaraes?
Barcelona believe that a bid in the region of €100m (£87m) could persuade Newcastle to part ways with one of their most prized assets.
The Catalan giants were recently crowned La Liga champions for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign, representing a successful return for Xavi’s first full season as Barcelona boss.
While they have achieved domestic success, Barcelona have been eliminated in the Champions League group stage for two seasons in a row.
As a result, they are now looking to build a side that can compete for the most lucrative prize in European football, and Guimaraes appears to feature in those plans.
“Making it happen will not be easy and depend largely on how much slack they are cut by La Liga and how successful their attempts at selling players are.
“The club have to make up a £174 million [€200m] deficit in order to move with freedom in the transfer market, free from the shackles of La Liga’s 40% rule that will otherwise oblige them to spend only £35 million [€40m] of every £100 million they bring in by either increasing revenue or reducing costs.”
Fresh from helping Newcastle United secure Champions League football, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes is a big-money target for Barcelona.
The Sun reports that the Spanish champions hope to bring in the Brazilian to reinforce their squad, which could help Newcastle balance their books.
“Barcelona want to sign Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes this summer,” the paper begins.
“The Catalan giants believe that the Brazilian ace can help catapult them back into Champions League contention.
