Clearer picture of man and suspect, Ryan Andrews, who burned down lobby of Lake County Indiana Jail is REVEALED.
After setting the lobby ablaze he then quickly fled the scene in a blue SUV the incident happened earlier this week. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Today, officers successfully arrested the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Ryan Andrews.
A man wanted for setting a fire in the lobby of the Lake County Jail in Crown Point, Indiana, was arrested on Friday in southwest suburban Tinley Park.
The Lake County Sheriff’s office said 26-year-old Ryan Andrews was being held in custody in Illinois, awaiting extradition to Indiana, after he was taken into custody by Tinley Park police on Friday morning.
Andrews is accused of walking into the lobby of the Lake County Jail shortly before noon on Monday, carrying a jug containing an accelerant. Sheriff’s officials said video shows him dousing the lobby with he liquid, setting it on fire, and running out, before fleeing in a blue SUV.
Andrews was taken into custody by officers in Tinley Park, Illinois. His extradition to Indiana is pending, according to the sheriff’s department.
Charging documents said Andrews entered the jail lobby, doused the floor with gasoline, lit a stack of papers on fire and then tossed them on the floor, spreading the fire throughout the lobby.
A jail consultant put the cost of the damage at $6,500 to $8,500, according to a probable-cause affidavit.
A witness told police that ahead of the fire, Andrews came up to her at the front desk and spoke erratically about the current and previous governors of Indiana and the current president of the United States, charges stated. She also noted that he was carrying a gallon-sized jug filled with a yellow liquid.
