Selangor plans to ban pet stores from selling dogs and cats, says state exco Ng Sze Han.

According to The Star, this is to encourage people to adopt animals from shelters and prevent pet abandonment.

Ng says pet stores can sell pet food instead. The Star also reports that the Selangor government has recommended for all local councils to use the netting method to catch dogs.

Ng says the looping method could be used if the dogs are in locations that are hard to reach, such as under vehicles, small holes or drains. Meanwhile, he adds that the Selangor government is in the final stages of launching a Fur Shelter.

He says the shelter will be on a 1.2-hectare plot of land and will be located at the border of Subang Jaya and close to Cyberjaya.
