The Transport Ministry is open to bringing back the iconic mini bus services to improve public transportation.
“Some of the PJ representatives met me last week, they proposed to me a system of mini buses in the area, I said well and good,” Minister Anthony Loke told BFM.
Anthony said he told the PJ reps not to solely depend on the government to provide those services.
“If you can have private operators to run some of the services, some of the routes, then we don’t have to reinvent the wheel, we do not have to compete with each other.”
Anthony adds that he told Prasarana not to work as a single operator, as only 55% of buses under Rapid Bus are actively operating.
“I told Prasarana..if you cant run everything yourself, then you have to work with other operators,” he told BFM.
Anthony also noted that the government’s role is to complement the public transportation industry.
“We do not want to be seen as killing the industry, and we welcome private operators to take part as well,” he told The Breakfast Grille on BFM.
