Secretary of State Anthony Blinken gives China the green light to invade Taiwan during his visit to Beijing, China.
“We do not support Taiwan independence.”
What a pivot from Biden’s previous comments from just months ago. What happened?
“Yes, if in fact, there was an unprecedented attack,” Biden said after being asked if he would defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion.
Washington does not seek a new Cold War and does not intend to influence the political structure of China, the US Secretary of State said at a meeting with Xi Jinping in Beijing, Global Times reports.
Xi, in turn, noted that the future and destiny of mankind depends on whether China and the United States can coexist properly. He stressed that China respects the interests of the United States, and the States must respect China and not harm its legitimate interests.
“The Chinese side has made our position clear, and both sides have agreed to follow the general agreements reached by President Biden and me in Bali. Both sides have also made progress and reached an agreement on some specific issues,” Xi Jinping said after the talks.
